Factors to Consider for PV Installation

Over the past few years, people across the globe have gained interest in solar energy for a variety of reasons. With the economy at a standstill and the 'green living' trend continuing to be a hot topic each day, a lot of people have started to wonder how they can save money on their electricity bills each year. One of the most recognized benefits of solar panel installation is the amount of money that consumers cansave. Molly Sterkel of the California Public Utilities Commission, said there are currently about 70,000 solar customers throughout the state, Greentech Media reported. The organization has been working with the state's incentive programs for PV solar to encourage more residents in California to adopt solar installations.Sterkel said California is 'well on its way' regarding cost-effectiveness of solar energy technology.

A report released in 2011 called 'Solar Power Generation in the U.S.: Too expensive or a bargain?'revealed that there are some significant benefits people can gain from introducing PV technologyinto their home or business. It is estimated that solar energy candeliver about 15 to 40 cents per kilowatt hour, according to Solar Industry Magazine. The report's findings aims to challenge the belief that solar energy installations are expensive.

'Even as the costs of solar power continue to decline, a widespread perception from the public and many policymakers that solar is 'too expensive' remains stubbornly in place - much to the frustration of advocates and industry professionals,' the Solar Industry Magazine article stated'

Solar Energy Gaining Popularity

A solar energy expert told the New York Times solar energy has been making big strides over the past few years. He highlighted some of the ways PV systems have assisted residents in New York and New Jersey, and encouraged people to look into the benefits.

'Solar photovoltaic technology can significantly reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and our dependence on the grid,' he wrote. 'Electricity-producing photovoltaic panels installed on houses, on the roofs of warehouses and big box stores and over parking lots can be wired so that they deliver power when the grid fails.Solar panels have dropped in price by 80 percent in the past five years and can provide electricity at a cost that is at or below the current retail cost of grid power in 20 states, including many of the Northeast states. So why isn't there more of a push for this clean, affordable, safe and inexhaustible source of electricity?'
